PHOTOS: A look at the world’s best new golf course at the Praia D’El Rey Marriott

For those of you who sell golf tourism, listen up: not one but two of Europe’s top 50 courses are available for holidaymakers who stay at the five-star Praia D’El Rey Marriott Golf & Beach Resort this spring – and that includes world’s best new golf course, West Cliffs Golf Links.

Situated an hour north of Lisbon on Portugal’s Silver Coast, the West Cliffs Golf Links has scored a hole in one with its reception by the golfing world since opening last summer. The par-72 course features in Praia D’El Rey’s new stay-and-play packages, with four-night, three-round breaks available from €410 per person.

As well as playing West Cliffs – the winner of numerous accolades including the title of ‘World’s Best New Course’ at the 2017 World Golf Awards – guests have the opportunity to play the resort’s other 18-hole championship course, Praia D’El Rey, which is also ranked among the top layouts in Europe.

All packages, which are based on two people sharing a room, feature bed-and-breakfast accommodation in a garden or golf-view room in the resort’s five-star hotel, with complimentary transfers to West Cliffs also included.

The first Cynthia Dye golf course in Portugal, West Cliffs has been created over 200 hectares of natural landscape and sand dunes. Tipped to become the country’s new number one, the clifftop links course offers views of the Atlantic Ocean from each hole.

The original Praia D’El Rey championship course which, designed by Cabell Robinson in 1997, is set in a combination of extensive pine forests and sand dunes, and also features views over the Atlantic and the Berlengas Islands beyond.

As well as golf, Praia D’El Rey offers an array of sports, leisure and accommodation facilities including a Marriott hotel, a wide selection of villas, a tennis academy, a luxury spa and health club, a watersports complex and restaurants.
